Welcome to our farm!
We are Kieran and Sara from Canada and Norway and we’ve lived at our farm since September 2020. The house, barn and property was a total mess when we bought it; full of garbage and dirt, but we saw the potential and instantly knew that this was our farm. The first six months were extremely hard but after 50+ trips to the recycling station we finally had a blank canvas to work with. The house was initially fully off grid, but after the first winter where the temperatures dropped down to -22 degrees celsius for a month and a half, we realized that installing electricity was necessary. After we had renovated, decorated and upgraded the indoors, we moved on to the outdoors and established and fenced in our perennial garden and mandala garden. Less than a year after we bought the farm, we were growing over 30 different vegetables, fruits and berries. We knew that we had found our passion.
Needless to say it has been a very long process making the farm feel like our own, but we are finally at the stage where the property offers recreation and relaxation. We are aiming towards self-sufficiency, and although we succumbed to getting on the grid, we are continuously exploring solutions that do not depend on the outside world. We follow permaculture and no dig principles, and we want to leave not only this place, but the earth a little better off than what it was before.
